The best equivalence for interoperability is a digital nervous system – a backbone that carriages the standardized messages both to and from the end points and a brain that evaluates the messages traveling through the system. Interoperability solution helps to reduce redundant data entry, speed access to information and create a real-time flow of information through an enterprise IT system. The main advantage of making interoperability is to advance the visibility, sharing and re-use of data collection between disparate healthcare applications and devices. However, interoperability of health care management information systems covers health and patient information, clinical knowledge and workflow, and technical matters such as architecture, messaging,

I determined that the most significant requirement of an effective solution to interoperability is its ability of operative effectively in heterogeneous environments.  In the health care environment, it allows health information systems to work together within and across organizational boundaries in order to advance the effective delivery of healthcare for individuals and communities. Interoperability is becoming a crucial issue for industry, and a lack of interoperability can be seen as an important barrier to collaborative work, in both public (inter-enterprise) and private (intra-enterprise) collaborative processes. Indeed, interoperability is generally defined as the ability of enterprises to interact within a collaborative process. Prior to any effective collaboration, it is necessary to inform enterprises, which aim to work together, whether or not they would be able to interoperate.  I believe customers will continue to have mixed or heterogeneous environments for the foreseeable future. But the ability for these systems to work together reduces the cost of building and supporting a heterogeneous infrastructure.

Suggest a significant challenge of applying WSIHS to health care management information systems (HMIS), and indicate how the challenge may be mitigated.

WSIHS is new middleware technology ‘Web services’ that is applied in the projected healthcare information system (HIS) to address the issue of system and language interoperability raised from existing healthcare information systems. However this has raised concerns about data transmission, data security, and network limitation. On the basis of the need to integrate and share information about the patients among caregiver, it is not difficult to surmise that WSHIS would also face most, it not all, of the interoperability challenges affecting another HMIS (Tan & Payton, 2010).
